Carers in Hertfordshire
Carers in Hertfordshire Bereavement Service offers bereavement support in group sessions as well as telephone support for people who do not wish to attend a group or cannot access one. Bereavement support is reviewed after six months and can be provided for up to a year. Bereaved carers who live in Hertfordshire or have cared in Hertfordshire and have lost the person for whom they cared in the last three years can access support. Groups operate in Watford and Hatfield. For further details contact Carers in Hertfordshire on 01992 586969.
Free sessions will help bereaved carers to:
- Share their experience with other people in a similar situation.
- Help them to find their own way to cope and move forward.
- Get the information they need about other support and services which are available.
The sessions are run by an experienced team of volunteers who will be present at all sessions to offer a listening ear and support

Garden House Hospice Care provides specialist palliative care for patients, families and carers facing life-limiting illnesses, enabling you to have the best possible quality of life by providing care and support in the setting of your choice. Our committed and passionate team offer physical, emotional and spiritual care. It is available for people living in North Hertfordshire, Stevenage and surrounding towns and villages in Central Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire and we support hundreds of people every year.
The Family Support Team work with patients, families and friends, both pre- and post-bereavement. We offer 1:1 Counselling, Group & family work, Supportive Calls, Social work and help access other services, such as benefits and housing, to support your psychological & spiritual wellbeing. Our team will meet you wherever you are in your journey; taking the opportunity to provide timely and appropriate support, to listen, to help you explore what has meaning for you, and enable you to achieve the best possible outcome for yourself.
Patients with an identified need who are not known to the Hospice can be referred by a healthcare professional. Patients known to the Hospice, and any family and friends, can self-refer to Family Support Services. You can refer yourself to our service by calling 01462 679540 and asking for Family Support.

Isabel Hospice
1:1 Counselling/bereavement Support for Adults
We offer 1:1 Counselling/bereavement support to Isabel Hospice patient’s family members/loved ones. These sessions can be offered as a f2f appointment (required to attend sessions at WGC sites) or via telephone support/online.
Group Support Sessions for Adults
Our Grief Encounters Groups are 6-week episodes of care. We have sessions available in WGC, Hoddesdon and Bishops Stortford. This is offered to anyone in our catchment area whether or not there are links to a hospice patient.
Therapy Group sessions for patients and carers linked to Isabel Hospice: Craft group, Serendipity Female patients group, Serendipity Female carer group, The Junction Male patient therapy group, and Mindfulness. Our groups are a variety of face-to-face and online work. Please contact for more information.
Bereavement Support for Children (up to 18 years)
Any Children in our catchment area whether there are links to a hospice patient can access our children’s service.
We offer 1-1 support face-to-face either on-site in WGC or school, online or by telephone.
We also offer group work, which includes feelings and sounds(drumming) CATS (children and teenagers support) therapeutic activity groups for young children and Youth groups for older children, therapeutic art crafts and creativity groups and Mindfulness.
Compassionate Cafes
Compassionate cafes are offered to anyone in our catchment area whether they are connected to Hospice, and these are drop-ins. We have groups in Welwyn Garden City, Hoddesdon and Bishops Stortford. These can be.
